Rivers athletes arrived on campus this fall eager to work hard and the months of practices and games yielded NEPSAC New England championships in field hockey and girls’ soccer. In the weeks since the season’s conclusion, the individuals who helped make this fall so special have received deserved praise for their play on the field.
Liz Webber ’16 has been one of the most dominant defenders in the ISL for the past four years, earning recognition on both the local and national level. That trend continued this year as Liz anchored the Red Wings defense and contributed to the attack with four goals and three assists. For her play, she was named a National Soccer Coaches Association All-America and Massachusetts State Player of the Year.
Liz was also named a Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic, NSCAA All-State and All-New England, and was the unanimous ISL Player of the Year. This is Liz’s second All-America recognition and she becomes the second Rivers girls’ soccer player to be named NSCAA Massachusetts State Player of the Year after Maclaine Lehan ’14 won it in 2013.
Joining Liz on the NSCAA All-America, All-New England, All-State, and All-ISL teams is goalkeeper Brooke Heinsohn ’16. In 10 appearances for Rivers this year – a number limited by a tour with the United States Women’s U-19 National Team – Brooke recorded eight shutouts and allowed just two goals. She did not allow a goal in Rivers’ three NEPSAC Class B Tournament games en route to the championship.
