Fall 2026 Varsity Pre-Season Information

Who should attend?
Varsity pre-season practices are for Upper School students.
For varsity boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ cross country, volleyball, and field hockey, all students who consider themselves varsity candidates are expected to attend all preseason practices. For Upper School football, all players are expected to attend the preseason practices.

If you are unsure if your child should attend varsity pre-season practices, please contact the varsity head coach of the program in question, or Kristin Cannon, director of athletics.

Varsity Preseason Practice Times
Practice times for each team are posted on their respective team page on the Athletics portal at www.rivers.org. Participants are asked to block off the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Actual practice times need to be flexible in the event we have poor weather and need to stagger practices.

Student Athlete’s Physical Readiness
Please note that varsity coaches will take physical readiness for varsity level practice and competition into consideration when making their team selections. Therefore, students need to come to preseason practices in shape and prepared for intense workouts.

Lunch
Students will be able to stay on campus between sessions on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5. Lunch will not be provided but refrigeration will be available for students who want to bring a lunch. 

Transportation
Transportation to and from each practice session is the responsibility of the parent and the time between sessions is in no way a part of The Rivers School varsity pre-season athletic program.

Medical Information
In order for your child to participate in athletics, they must have an up-to-date physical on file with the Health Office.  

Please remember to complete your child's health forms as soon as possible, before preseason starts, and schedule your child's annual physical examination if necessary.
