On Saturday June 28, the Ottawa Senators selected Miles Gendron ’14 with the 70th pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. The 2014 ISL Eberhart Division MVP was the second NEPSAC player selected and is the first Rivers hockey player to ever be selected in the NHL Draft.

Before any NHL career begins, however, Miles will be playing a year of junior hockey in the British Columbia Hockey League for the Penticton Vees. He will attend the University of Connecticut, where he signed a National Letter of Intent, beginning in the fall of 2015.

Miles finished his career at Rivers with 27 goals and 44 assists in 98 games while helping the Red Wings earn two Eberhart Division championships. As a senior, he captained the Red Wings as they won the Eberhart Division Championship as well as the Eberhart Division Sportsmanship Award.

After making the switch from forward to defenseman during his junior season, Miles saw the potential of his hockey career explode. He was given the highest marks possible as a skater and impressed scouts with his athletic ability at the NHL Draft Combine, vaulting to No. 74 on NHL Central Scouting’s list of prospects.
