Enhancing Our Spaces: Summer Campus Updates
Community members returning to Rivers’ campus after summer break will experience some subtle and not-so-subtle transformations. Thanks to the Rivers facilities team, which worked throughout the summer to complete a myriad of campus projects, there are several enhancements to the physical environment for the upcoming school year.
Behind this rapid metamorphosis was Campus Operations Manager John Trugler, who joined the Rivers community in late April. His role was to connect all the pieces—working with department leaders, coordinating vendors and deliveries, and moving each summer project from planning through completion.
“What stood out to me was just how much work happens behind the scenes in a short amount of time to prepare the campus for the return of students and faculty,” Trugler said. “Summer moves quickly, so a lot of the work comes down to anticipating challenges, staying flexible, and making sure all of the moving parts come together at the right time.”
Among the most visible changes is the renovated Admission Office in the Carlin Building. Featuring an updated lounge, modern waiting room, and refreshed office spaces, the area now offers a particularly warm and welcoming experience for visitors and prospective families.
Director of Enrollment Management Yassine Talhaoui equates the renovated space to a preview of the Rivers experience. “Applying to a new school can feel overwhelming,” Talhaoui added. “Creating an inviting environment allows us to put families at ease the moment they walk through the door, allowing for authentic and meaningful connections from the start.”
• The Campus Center features new stonework for the entrance steps and enhanced lighting.
• Korff Commons has new seating tailored for student comfort.
• Hutton Commons is now outfitted with soft lounge furniture to upgrade the gathering space, which is used during the school day and athletic events.
• The coaches’ suite in MacDowell Athletics Center features upgraded furniture, refreshed workspaces for coaches, and new vending machines.
The robotics program and the Honors Seminar in Life Sciences Research will also benefit from new classroom equipment this fall. The Revers Center gained eight new 3D printers for robotics students, and a donor-funded fluorescence microscope will enhance seminar students’ genetics research.
“Our facilities team has been working tirelessly to ensure our physical spaces foster deep connection and a welcoming environment,” wrote Head of School Ryan S. Dahlem in a recent letter to the professional community. “I want to thank our facilities team for their hard work and dedication to evolving and enhancing our incredible campus spaces.
