Welcome Back Barbecue Draws Hundreds to Celebrate the Start of School
Parents and caregivers, students, and members of the professional community gathered on campus to reconnect, enjoy dinner together, and celebrate the start of school at Rivers’ second annual Welcome Back Barbecue. With more than 600 community members coming together, the energy and excitement for the start of a new school year were palpable.
Attendees soaked in the beautiful, warm fall weather on Hutton Terrace, where delicious barbecue fare was served. Spirits were high throughout the celebration as families browsed a pop-up Red Wing gear shop staffed by volunteers from the Parents’ League, connected with friends, and celebrated a successful first full week of classes.
As the evening progressed, attendees spread out across campus to support the Red Wings on the field and court. Spectators cheered on the field hockey team, which brought home an 8–0 victory against Worcester Academy. Indoors, fans headed over to Benson Gym inside MacDowell Athletic Center for the Friday night game of the week—varsity volleyball won 3–2 in a five-set thriller lasting over two hours, improving their record to 2–0 for the season.
“The energy on campus tonight is incredible, and seeing so many families come together to kick off the new year really sets the tone for our community and the exciting year ahead,” said Director of Family and Alumni Engagement Janet McKeeney.
