    Celebrating 50 Years of Inspiring Musical Excellence

    On May 30, the Rivers School Conservatory concluded the yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary with a free community celebration and concert under the tent on Lank Quadrangle at The Rivers School, attended by nearly 400 guests. This special event brought together current students, professional community members, and returning alumni to celebrate RSC’s legacy of musical excellence. The wide-ranging musical program featured swinging New Orleans jazz along with triumphant music by Rachmaninoff, Sousa, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven. After an unseasonably cold and overcast day, the sun emerged just in time for the celebration, as if cued by a conductor.

    "Annie Jr." Brings Optimism and Heart to the Middle School Stage

    For their annual musical this year, the Middle School presented their take on a beloved classic with three performances of Annie Jr. Performances took place in the Black Box Theater from May 14 to 16, and the show was directed by Diane DeVore P’22 and choreographed by Zoë Iacovelli, with music direction from John Bower P’31 and production by Julia Auster-Hogan ’06.

    Young Performers and Composers Explore Contemporary Music in Annual Seminar

    At the Rivers School Conservatory (RSC), the annual Seminar on Contemporary Music for the Young allows students to immerse themselves in the entire music creation process. For some, that means learning contemporary music written within the last 25 years for the very first time. For others, it means stepping forward as composers, hearing their own work come to life in performance. This year’s Seminar, the 47th in RSC’s history, was defined by both experiences, embodied in the journeys of two RSC students: Eduardo (Eddie) De Souza ’26 and Gavin Armstrong.
