James McGarry Named Camp Nonesuch Director

The Rivers School and Camp Nonesuch recently named James McGarry to the position of Camp Nonesuch Director. McGarry takes the leadership role after an extensive search and will begin preparations for the highly anticipated next summer season.

While McGarry is new to the director role, he is already a beloved and deeply dedicated member of the Camp Nonesuch family. A former camper himself, he has worked alongside former director Paul Karasch for the past 14 years, serving in almost every role imaginable—from counselor and lifeguard to CIT director and, most recently, assistant director for the last two summers. A current English faculty member at Brookline High School, McGarry also brings his years of experience in youth development and mentorship to his new position.

“McGarry’s deep experience, creativity, passion, and strong understanding of camp operations and safety make him the perfect leader for this role,” said Head of School Ryan S. Dahlem in the announcement to the community.

McGarry expressed his enthusiasm for the new role and a commitment to maintaining everything that has made Camp Nonesuch special for generations of kids, while also bringing forward new and innovative ideas to enhance the camper experience.

“Please join me in offering a warm welcome and congratulations to James as he steps into this new leadership position,” said Dahlem. “We look forward with great excitement to our next summer season!”
