A “Hero Among Us”: Rivers’ Alumnus and Trustee Honored by Boston Celtics

Mark Schuster ’72 and his brother Scott were honored before a home game in March by the Boston Celtics and the Massachusetts State Lottery as local heroes, as part of the team’s “Heroes Among Us” program. Thirty years ago, Mark’s brother Scott was suffering from rapid kidney failure . In an incredibly selfless gesture, Mark donated one of his kidneys to Scott. Since then, both brothers have worked diligently to help others overcome the disease. In the past fi ve years, they have raised over $7,000,000 for the National Kidney Foundation. Not content to simply offer financial support, Mark and Scott also actively support education, early disease detection, prevention and most importantly, promotion of organ donor awareness.

Mark is the chairman of Bluestone Holdings, a real estate management and development company headquartered in Newton, MA. Now in his second term as a member of the Rivers Board of Trustees, Mark has been a member of the Facilities Committee since 1998 and has served on a number of other Board committees. He and his wife Audrey were responsible for the refurbishment of the admissions area, the entrance of which has been named Schuster Hall. The Schusters live in Chestnut Hill are the parents of Elizabeth ’04, Nikki ’07, and John.
