Alan Rose ’87 Honored with the 2008 Rivers Cup

The Rivers Alumni Association honored its former president and current trustee Alan D. Rose, Jr. ’87 with the annual Rivers Cup at Reunion 2008 in May. Alan was recognized for his years of service on the Alumni Council, particularly for his dedication as a chair and phonathon caller for the Annual Fund.
He is also a faithful participant in and sponsor of the annual Golf Tournament which supports the Alumni Financial Aid Fund. As a trustee, Alan currently serves on the Board’s nominating committee and previously was a member of the Board’s Development Committees as well as the Faculty Enrichment Committee, overseeing the awarding of enrichment grants from the Faculty Fund each year.

Rivers is not alone in honoring Alan. In 2005 and again in 2006, Alan was selected as a “Massachusetts Super Lawyer” in general litigation by Boston Magazine, an honor reserved for the top 5% of Massachusetts lawyers. He is a co-founder and partner at the Boston law firm of Rose, Chinitz, and Rose. Alan’s practice focuses on civil and criminal trial and appellate litigation in federal and state courts. His clients have run the gamut from high profile public officials and an FBI special agent to major universities and banks.

In addition to his busy practice, Alan has put his unflappable personality and attention to detail to the test every four years or so when he “comes down with the political bug.” In addition to some Democratic state politicking, Alan worked the 1992 national campaigns of Clinton and Gore and in Gore’s 1996 and 2000campaigns. He continued in the thick of things post-election in 2000 when he was hired by the Gore/Lieberman Recount Committee to perform legal and political work during the Florida recount.

That wasn’t enough to cure him, though, and he faced his biggest challenge in 2004 when the Democratic National Committee chose him for a six-month stint as the Convention Hall Director of the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Putting his law practice on hold, he was responsible for coordinating all of the construction and production activities required to transform the FleetCenter sports arena into the Convention site. It is safe to say he handled that job with considerably more aplomb than Boston’s city officials who brought the city to a near standstill.

After graduating from Rivers in 1987, Alan received a bachelors’ with honors from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1991. He went on to earn an M.S. in law in 1994 and then a J.D. in 1995 from Vermont Law School. Alan and Lisa live in Boston with their two sons Alan III and Teddy.
