Catch the Red Wings at the TD Garden

Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be taking part in the TD Garden Prep School Basketball Showcase on January 19, 2015 on the very same court where the Boston Celtics play their home games.

Sixteen independent school basketball teams will take part in the all-day event, which doubles as a fundraiser for the ARC of Massachusetts, a local charity that supports individuals and families dealing with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The girls will face Noble & Greenough at 3:00 p.m., followed immediately by the boys’ game against Brooks at 4:30 p.m.

“This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for our student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics Jim McNally. “We have been very fortunate to play a football bowl game at Gillette Stadium and a girls' hockey game at Frozen Fenway Park. This current opportunity provides another group of Rivers student-athletes to experience what it is like to play in a professional venue.”

In addition to the unique atmosphere, both games promise to be very exciting contests. Nobles and Rivers played an excellent game last February with Nobles emerging 49-45 winners, while the boys’ game against Brooks last winter saw the Red Wings earn a 59-58 victory.

Also participating in the event are The Pingree School; Lexington Christian Academy; Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols; Belmont Hill; Thayer Academy; Providence Country Day; Lawrence Academy; and Cheshire Academy. The event begins with the first game at 9:00 a.m. and goes until the end of the last game, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the TD Garden box office for $15 and each ticket is general admission. Students can purchase tickets either online through this link, or can purchase them on Thursday, January 15 during lunch blocks.
