Alumni Tee Off on the Golf Course for Tuition Assistance

More than 150 Rivers alumni and friends teed off simultaneously at Charter Oak Country Club and Stow Acres Country Club this Monday for the 12th Annual Rivers School Golf Tournament to Benefit Financial Aid. Aside from serving as an opportunity to connect with friends and improve putts and drives, the tournament raised roughly $96,000 toward tuition assistance for deserving students to attend Rivers.

“Financial aid is such an important aspect of the Rivers community,” said Alumni Outreach Officer Christina Grady, who spearheaded the event. “The funds raised at this tournament have a direct impact on the Rivers student experience.”

For the third year, an up-and-coming Young Alumni Tournament was held at Stow Acres Country Club, just 10 minutes down the road from Charter Oak. Participants from both tournaments reconvened for dinner, silent and live auctions, and raffle drawings in the evening. Head of Upper School Patti Carbery was also honored at the event for her dedication to the Rivers community, and alumnae Kate McCourt ’98 and Heather Ganitsky ’98 spoke on behalf of Carbery as part of the evening program.

The tournament’s successful outcome was largely due to the hard work of the Golf Tournament Committee, led by chair Bruce Clifford ’83 P ’16, and the generosity of tournament sponsor Bill Whittemore ’69 and the Daley family (Pat Daley ’84 P’13 ’15 ’18 and his brother Fred P’12 ’14 ’16), who donated the Charter Oak course for the day. Another highlight of the event was the Super Raffle drawing—two lucky winners, Roger Prince ’72 and Sandy Swartz P ’13, won two tickets each to see the New England Patriots play the St. Louis Rams at Wembley Stadium in London. The raffle was made possible by generous donations from the Kraft and Berger families, as well as an anonymous donor.

"It was a tremendous day for Rivers alumni, current students, and parents," said Clifford. "All those involved should take pride in the event's success."

After 12 years, this tournament has raised a grand total of approximately $800,000 to support several outstanding students at Rivers.
