Students and faculty have had full use of the building since the first day of school, but President of the Board of Trustees, Roy MacDowell, formally declared the Campus Center open September 16 at an exciting evening celebration in honor of the new facility.
The beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year marked the opening of Rivers’ new Campus Center. The building houses many new spaces, including the Mathematics and Foreign Language Departments, the dining commons and servery, Community Service and Diversity Offices, a café, and gathering spaces.
Students and faculty have had full use of the building since the first day of school, but President of the Board of Trustees, Roy MacDowell, formally declared the Campus Center open September 16 at an exciting evening celebration in honor of the new facility.
“It is hard to believe that all of this has come together in less than two years,” MacDowell said in his speech the night of the event. “...Our deepest appreciation to all of you who have made this vision of a new campus center a reality.”
More than 530 members of the Rivers community attended the event, which featured speeches from MacDowell and Head of School Tom Olverson, as well as a video presentation in which students and faculty expressed their thanks to those involved in the project. Current and past parents, trustees, alumni, faculty, and friends of Rivers enjoyed walk-throughs of the new space, festive music from The Love Dogs, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and good company.
"Relationships are the DNA of Rivers," Olverson said at the event. "We use them to challenge and inspire students to become their best selves. That’s why this building is so important. It invites relationship building."
