This week it was announced that 12 Rivers student-musicians were accepted to participate in the Eastern Senior District Music Festival in January. The event, sponsored by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, will take place January 7 and 8 at Boston Latin School.
Over the last few months, student applicants went through a three-part audition process that involved performing a solo, playing/singing scales, and sight-reading, and choral director Susan Emmanoulidis says she was thrilled with the students’ success.
“We’ve had great results in the last few years, and it’s all because these students put the effort, time, and thought into preparing for the audition,” says Emmanoulidis. “Talent alone will not win – it’s skill development, consistent practice, and the willingness to persevere that result in acceptance into these high-caliber music festivals.”
The following students were accepted for the festival, with several also being recommended for the All-State Festival. In addition, sophomore violinists Sasha and Sally Gorski were selected from an applicant pool that included dozens of upperclassmen as the first and second chairs for the event.
