The Upper School Chamber Orchestra and the Middle School Chamber Ensemble performed at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association Festival on May 10. Rivers students came away having earned no less than seven gold medals for their outstanding efforts.

Each of Rivers’ entries in the festival was awarded a gold medal, including one to the entire Upper School Chamber orchestra, one to the trio of Melanie Snider ’12, Alex Andonian ’13 and Madeline Bauer ’13, one to the duet of Ethan Bauer ’11 and Juliana Horn ’08, and one individually to Meredith Grabscheid ’08, Sarah Shin ’11, Joel Richter ’08 and Anna Teng ’11.

The Upper School Chamber Orchestra played two movements of J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #3 with Ethan Bauer, Teng, Grabscheid, Kate Voorhes and Molly Bloom as soloists. Horn and Ethan Bauer—a Conservatory Program student—performed Mozart’s Symphony Concertante; Grabscheid played the music of Jacques Ibert; Conservatory Program student Teng played the Bruch Violin Concerto, and Conservatory Program student Shin played the music of Rachmaninoff. Snider, Andonian and Madeline Bauer played with the Middle School Chamber Ensemble as well.

Judges across the board were wowed by Rivers students’ performances. “The Rivers School keeps getting better and better,” said string judge Walter Papazaris.
