"It is such a great experience for these students to be able to race at a larger venue and on a longer course than they are used to skiing on at Nashoba Valley", said coach Kim Webster. "This is our biggest race of the year, and the team really looks forward to this event as a way to see how they match-up against other competitive Class C teams. Each skier really rose to the challenge and the teams came together to beat some tough competition."
The Rivers boys' team, led by senior co-captains Sam Masur and Jack Birger, includes senior Jeremy Moskowitz and juniors Jamie Lapides, and Matthew Robinson.
Lapides led the team in the giant slalom placing sixth overall, followed by Robinson who placed tenth overall. The team also had a very strong showing in the slalom race led by Masur who finished the event fifth overall, while Lapides finished eighth and Robinson finished ninth.
The Red Wings girls' team consisted of senior co-captains Caite Cutler and Jacquelyn Durand and juniors Kaleigh Hunt, Rebecca Duffy, Marisa Fox and Jacqueline Gannon.
The girls had a strong showing in the giant slalom race finishing in second place overall. Hunt led the event and finished fifth overall.
In addition, Hunt, Lapides, Robinson, and Masur received All-New England recognition for their outstanding performances on the slopes.
"The entire team worked really hard all season for this final event. It was a major goal of ours to do well at the Tournament and I think all of our hard work during the regular season really paid off," said Masur.
