Rivers Teacher Awarded Klingenstein Fellowship

Latin teacher Michael Girard at The Rivers School has been awarded a prestigious Kligenstein Fellowship at Columbia University for Summer 2004.

The 2002-2003 academic year is Girard’s first year teaching at Rivers. Previously, he taught at the Bentley School in California and the Williams School in Connecticut. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Vermont and received his master’s in classics from Fordham in 1998.

“The opportunity to be around so many inspiring teachers I’m hoping will inspire me to be the best teacher that I can be,” said Girard, who is also the girls’ middle school basketball coach and a junior varsity baseball assistant at Rivers.

The Klingenstein Fellowship program offers 70 independent school teachers with two to five years experience the opportunity to attend a two-week summer program for professional and personal development at the institute.
