This week, Rivers students came back to campus to find Haynes Hall completely transformed. Were they mistaken or had something magical taken place over the summer?

"As I walk through Haynes Hall, I really appreciate all the work that went into the building. The place really looks great. Everything including new lighting, carpets and bathrooms, make the space look fantastic. Haynes Hall really has class," said School Co-President, Eddie Benjamin.

With the proceeds from the last two Parents' League Auctions, Haynes Hall received a thorough face-lift this summer. Under a tight, deadline-driven schedule, the school worked closely with a space planner to determine how to best improve the majority of the public areas of the building.

Classrooms, academic offices, and student gathering areas were just a few of the places that were renovated. To enhance the building's overall appearance, drywall was installed over the cinder-block walls and a fresh coat of cream colored paint was added. To complete the look, new wooden doors and improved lighting were added to give the building a warmer, brighter feel.

To create more space in the middle level of Haynes Hall, every locker was moved to other locations on campus. The absence of the lockers made room for large wooden benches that provide a place for students to sit between classes.

On the top floor of the building, a central air-conditioning system was installed to cool the common areas. In addition, the open study area was redesigned to give students two distinct areas for studying. By creating a separate countertop computer area, the space now gives students the ability to spread out more easily at the round tables or move to a separate computer workstation.

Improvements were also made to the entrance on the parking lot side of the building so that a wide brick walkway and low lampposts now line the entryway.

The design of Haynes Hall is consistent with the renovations that were done in 2004 on Schuster Hall, the Admissions waiting area.
