The varsity girls' soccer team beat Brewster Academy 4-0 in the first round of the New England Tournament.
The Rivers varsity girls’ soccer team, seeded third, beat Brewster Academy 4-0 in the first round of the New England Tournament on Wednesday, November 16.

The win advanced the team into the semifinals of the tournament, which will be held on Saturday, November 19 at BB&N at 1:00 p.m. The Red Wings will take on seventh-seeded Bancroft, which upset St. George’s in a game that came down to penalty kicks.

“We played exceptionally well,” said head coach Susanna Donahue. “This was the best total team effort we’ve had all season.”

Freshman Megan Delaney had a big game for Rivers, scoring two goals. She scored the first goal of the game, which was technically unassisted but came off a great defensive play by sophomore Jacquelyn Durand.

Freshman Adrienne Anderson scored the second goal, assisted by sophomore Nicole Stenquist. Delaney scored again 1:20 into the second half, unassisted. The final goal was added by junior Anna Crystal.

Senior goalkeeper Eliza Cohen had a great game, making five saves to preserve the shutout. Sophomore Jen Keefe also contributed by adding one save.

The team finished the season in third place in the ISL with a regular-season record of 7-4-1. This is the fourth-consecutive trip to the tournament for the girls’ team.
