More than 175 loving grandparents traveled from near and far to attend this year's Grandparents' Day at Rivers.
Grandparents' Day was held on Friday, September 30. Grandparents attended a morning reception where Head of School Tom Olverson welcomed them and shared a recap of the successes of the school's strategic plan as well as recent student achievements.
"What is extraordinary is that with all of these dramatic accomplishments this school has still held on to its heart. It is still a school that knows kids, understands kids, and loves kids," Olverson said.
The visitors then met up with their grandchildren and attended classes and stayed for lunch. Some attended a specially scheduled section of the popular Art History class.
Grandparents were treated to a musical assembly, where they heard the school's chamber orchestra and big band perform. The chamber group played selections from Handel's "Water Music," and the Big Band played "Killer Joe," by Benny Golson; "Li'l Darling," composed by Neal Hefti; and "Cute," composed by Neal Hefti.
The day offered grandparents an opportunity to come to campus, meet their grandchild’s teachers and friends, and see what a day is like for students. More than a dozen parent volunteers lent a hand to make sure the day ran smoothly.
