Alexander McCall Caplan recently received a bachelor's degree in English from Yale University. He has worked as a teacher at the Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Programs as well as Summerbridge Cambridge and San Francisco. He will be a member of the English Department in the Upper School as well as advise the yearbook.

Leslie G. Fraser brings to Rivers experience from outside the classroom. With a law degree from Boston University Law School and an undergraduate degree in math from Bucknell University, she has been an attorney in the investment management and tax area for more than a decade. Leslie will teach in the Upper School Math Department.

Catherine W. Manwaring has a master's degree in environmental science and policy from Tufts University. She also has an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University. Catherine has most recently worked as a private science tutor, but has been an environmental specialist for the Environmental Protection Agency, where she received a regional medal for outstanding service. She has worked as a tutor at Rivers and will teach in the Science Department in the Upper School.

Sheldon L. Obelsky has taught history and social studies in the Arlington school system for more than 30 years. He holds a master’s degree in education from Boston State College and an undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts. He has also taught as a guest lecturer at the Boston University School of Education. Sheldon will join the Upper School History Department.

Magdalena S. Richter has a master’s degree in music from the Julliard School. She received a bachelor’s degree in music from the Academy of Music in Warsaw. She has taught at the Boston Conservatory of Music and at the New England Conservatory’s preparatory school. She also serves as the chairperson of the String Department at The Rivers Music School. Magdalena will teach strings in the Middle School Mixed Ensemble as well as teach the Upper School Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble.

Dorothy E. Vosburgh has a master’s degree in education from Boston University and an undergraduate degree from Elmira College. She brings to Rivers 36 years of teaching experience. Dorothy has taught extensively in the Franklin school system and was a 2005 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year nominee. She joins the English Department in the Upper School.

In addition to the new teaching faculty, Rivers welcomes part-time nurse Dorothy Jenkins and Rivers Music School Director of Marketing and Publications Laura Wexler.

Rivers welcomes back Whitney Robbins from her sabbatical and Meghan Regan-Loomis. New in the Rivers classroom is Melissa Dolan ’98, who worked last year in the Development Office. Theresa Reddish will now work as a Development Office Assistant in addition to her work in the Business Office.
