The Next Chapter of Board Leadership at Rivers: Alan D. Rose, Jr. ’87 to Conclude Term as Board President in June; Peter A. Walter P’23, ’25, ’28, ’29 to Succeed Rose

After nearly two decades of dedicated service, Board President Alan D. Rose, Jr. ’87 announced that he will conclude his tenure at the end of the 2025–26 academic year. Succeeding him in the pivotal role of board president is Peter A. Walter P’23, ’25, ’28, ’29, a seasoned trustee and current vice president of the Board.

The transition comes at a moment of notable momentum for the school. Rose, who has served as a trustee for 19 years, led Rivers through a series of transformative milestones, including the successful search and onboarding for the school’s ninth head of school, Ryan S. Dahlem, and the completion of the school’s most recent AISNE accreditation and approval of an ambitious strategic plan.

In a letter to the community, Rose expressed that his decision aligns with the completion of the strategic planning process. “Serving my alma mater … has been one of the greatest privileges of my life,” Rose stated. “We achieved the goals I set out to accomplish … [positioning] Rivers for an extraordinary future.”

Rose emphasized that the timing is right for a leader who can shepherd the school through the next chapter of strategic plan implementation and the second comprehensive capital campaign in Rivers’ history.

Walter is a familiar and deeply respected face within the Rivers community. With four children spanning the classes of 2023 through 2029, Walter’s connection to the school is both personal and professional. He currently serves as the Board’s vice president and has previously chaired the development and facilities committees.

“Pete lives and breathes the Rivers mission,” said Rose. “He is calm, analytical, highly supportive of the professional community, and deeply embraces our philosophy of Excellence with Humanity.

In addition to his leadership at Rivers, Walter served on the board of trustees at Tenacre Country Day School for 10 years and was a member of the school’s development; diversity, equity, and inclusion; investments; and finance committees. Professionally, Walter is co-founder and managing director of Trident Capital Group, a real estate private equity firm focusing on investments in industrial assets. He graduated from Boston College (B.A., economics) and the F.W. Olin School of Business at Babson (M.B.A.).

The Board of Trustees expressed unanimous support for Walter during their most recent meeting. While the formal vote for the full slate of trustees and officers for 2026–27 will take place in June, the school chose to announce the news early to ensure a transparent and seamless transition.

“On behalf of the Rivers community, I want to thank Alan for his nearly two decades of leadership at Rivers. Alan and Ryan have worked together seamlessly to move Rivers through accreditation and strategic planning and position us for implementation of the strategic plan and our next capital campaign,” said Walter. “Rivers is in a position of strength because of the leadership of Ryan, Alan, and the Board of Trustees. My wife, Jess, and I are extremely grateful for our children’s Rivers education, and I look forward to building on our momentum at Rivers in the years ahead.”

Dahlem, who has worked closely with both Rose and Walter, also looks toward the future with confidence. “With our new strategic plan in place, Rivers continues on an incredibly strong trajectory,” said Dahlem. “I am grateful for Alan’s leadership and extraordinary service to Rivers. As he passes the torch to Pete this summer, the Board and Rivers will remain in very good hands.”

As Rose prepares to conclude his final year as president, the community celebrates his nearly 20 years of stewardship and welcomes Walter to lead the Board through the school’s exciting next chapter.
