Rivers Fall Teams Ready for Season

Girls’ Soccer
The Rivers girls’ soccer team is working on a return trip to the New England Tournament this fall. This would be the third-consecutive year the team has qualified. Last year, the team lost in the semifinals.

The squad’s team captains this year are seniors Victoria Russell, Katherine Brustowicz and Jaclyn Kline. Also returning to the team is one of last year’s leading scorers freshman Susie Jensen.

Look for eighth-grader Megan Delaney, freshman Jacquelyn Durand and freshman Nicole Stenquist to make solid contributions as newcomers to the team.

“This is the most technically and tactically skilled team I’ve had in three years,” said head coach Susanna Donahue. “These skills give us a chance to try new systems of play.”

Boys’ Soccer
Aiming to get back to the New England Tournament, the Rivers boys’ soccer team is looking forward to another successful year.

This year the senior captains are Clark Winchell and Alan Ashenfelter. Key returners to the team are junior Derek Stenquist and senior Aaron Edelman.

Look for newcomers sophomore Stephano Williams and freshman Sheanon Williams to make solid contributions. Also new in the goal for the team is junior John Corridan.

“I think we’ll have a very good season,” said head coach Bob Pipe. “We’re going to be competitive within the league. We have a good mix or senior veterans as well as new kids. This is a fun and exciting team.”

Football
The Rivers football team boasts a talented and deep roster this season and is looking to improve on last year’s .500 finish.

This fall the team’s captains are seniors Mike McGuinness and Alex Saunders. Look for key returning players to the team quarterback sophomore Cherron Kerr, senior Ryan Daly and senior Tim Ferriter to play with renewed confidence.

“Not only is the interest in our program up, but the depth on this team is great,” said head coach Mitch Harper. “We have a solid defense scheme that allows us to really be successful with the personnel we have. The kids are working harder and they’re better skilled. We should do well this year.”

Field Hockey
The Rivers girls’ field hockey team is looking forward to a successful season. With returning coach Amy Woodland at the helm, the team has a lot of energy and is excited for the seaon.

This year’s captains are seniors Lydia Russell-Roy, Emma Payette and Danielle Kaster. Look for juniors Stolle Singleton and Elissa Bullion to step up and make contributions.

“There’s a really a good, cohesive feeling on this team,” said assistant coach Karin Narcisse. “I’m excited about this season. We’ve had some good practices. The girls are working hard and they’re really motivated.”

Cross Country
The Rivers boys’ cross country team is returning three solid runners in junior Nate Biagetti, senior Doug Badrigian, and junior Sam Perrone. The girls’ cross country team is returning senior Brooke Barron and junior Heather Maytham.

Our returning runners for the boys are in good shape and I expect they will contribute in a pretty big way for the team,” said coach Steve Paluseo. “As far as the girls team, those who returning are more fit this year and the other new runners will help us to be a good middle of the pack sort of a team.”
