A Storm of Fun: The First Red & White Competition of the Year

The Rivers School community weathered a storm of fun and laughter on Friday morning at the first Red & White competition of the 2025–26 school year, with faculty members Sequoyah Reynoso and Julia Auster-Hogan ’06 leading the community through a series of weather-themed challenges in Benson Gymnasium. (The event had to be brought indoors due to an impending storm—fitting for the theme of this fall’s competition.)

Students and members of the professional community sorted into red and white teams and battled it out for bragging rights. In keeping with the theme, the challenges were all about the elements. Students scrambled to a central chair to be the first to “name that tune”; respond to a prompt to bring up a specific object, like sunscreen or an umbrella; answer a trivia question; or join an activity, such as racing to toss small beach balls around the perimeter of the gym.

The competition culminated in a spirited game of rock-paper-scissors, with both teams crowding in around their champions to cheer them on. Though the white team came out victorious, there were smiles all around.
