What things are you involved in at Rivers? Some activities I am involved with are soccer, Nordic skiing, tennis, community service club, chorus, and the Middle School play. All these activities let me be myself and have fun with the people around me. I also love the teachers and coaches who are so supportive and invested in my success.
What advice would you offer to new students to help them get the most out of their Rivers experience?
I would tell any new student to not be anxious about being new at Rivers. The first year I came here I remember being so worried about meeting new people, fitting in and attending a different school. All my worrying stopped after my first week at Rivers. All the students and teachers were so welcoming, helpful, and genuinely interested in me. Also, the environment was very happy. I realized that I had been worrying about nothing. As a new student you will be welcomed here, too.
How has Rivers shaped you as a person?
Rivers has shaped me as a person in so many ways. Rivers has taught me how to take risks, and step outside of my comfort zone. Through our trips to Hale, Leadership Week, and field trips, I’ve learned to try new things, take on leadership roles and become more confident with my decisions. Rivers has also taught me how to respect others’ realities. I now know that when I say something involving others, I should always respect their opinions, too. Academically, I have enjoyed my classes, and I have even learned I can take on and overcome challenges that I would’ve shied away from in the past.
What is your favorite class?
I like all of my classes, so picking a favorite is very hard for me. My favorite class would probably be Latin. Latin is my favorite class because we learn so much more than just the language. We learn about what it was really like, for example, to live in Pompeii through the perspective of the various characters we read about in our Latin textbook. Mrs.Fav has taught my classmates and me so much about Latin and genuinely stirred our passion for learning.
What is your favorite extracurricular activity?
My favorite extracurricular activity would probably be Nordic skiing. Last year, when I first signed up, I knew very little about how to cross country ski. But with the help of my teammates and my coach, I learned how to do it. Although I previously had never imagined I would do Nordic, after last year’s experience, I decided I wanted to keep doing this sport. Even though I might not be the best athlete at Nordic, I still love skiing at the track and making so many good memories with my teammates.
