Faculty Lecture with Ben Leeming, History Department Chair
“Collaborative Intelligence: Pairing Human Expertise with AI Language Models in Historical Research”
Hutton Hall (2nd floor)
Jarzavek Teaching chair Ben Leeming and his students have been using AI to transcribe 18th-century land deeds from colonial New England. In his work as a scholar of early colonial Mexico, he is part of a team training AI models to read and analyze documents written in Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs. Come hear how this collaborative approach between human and artificial intelligence, while not without pitfalls, is opening up new possibilities for uncovering historical insights from previously understudied documents.
