Student Musicians to Represent Rivers at Eastern District Festival

Twelve Rivers musicians have been accepted into the Eastern District Festival, a competitive weekend festival offered by the Massachusetts Music Educator’s Association as an enrichment opportunity for talented young musicians. Additionally, 11 of the 12 students also received All-State recommendations from their auditions, which is a significant honor for these musicians and The Rivers School Conservatory.

“Rivers is extremely proud to have 12 students representing the school in the Eastern District Festival this year,” said Director of The Rivers School Conservatory, David Tierney. “The students represent all three aspects of our extraordinary program – jazz, classical instrumental, and choral.”

Tierney says it is even more impressive that 11 of these 12 students received All-State recommendations, which is an honor given only to the top 25 percent of students accepted into the Eastern District Festival.

Students representing Rivers at the Eastern District Festival are Madeline Bauer ’13 (violin), Emma Churchill ’14 (cello), Julia Churchill ’14 (violin), Luke Flood ’12 (chorus), Rachel Hawley ’15 (chorus), James Hotchkiss ’14 (string bass), Ryan Johnson ’14 (chorus), Brendan King ’12 (baritone saxophone), Kathryn Nielsen ’13 (chorus), Joseph Sack ’13 (chorus), Rhea Teng ’15 (cello), and Zoe Weisskoff ’13 (chorus).
