Rivers Artists Exhibit at Lesley University Arts Center
Artwork by ten Rivers students has been included in an invitational exhibit at Lesley University, alongside work from 13 New England prep schools, including Milton, Middlesex, Nobles, Brooks, Hotchkiss, BB&N, and St. Marks. The exhibit, a new initiative by AANEPS (Art Association of New England Preparatory Schools) in collaboration with LUCAD (Lesley University College of Art and Design), runs through December 18 and is open daily, except Monday, to the public.
The essential challenge, posed to art students in grades 8-12, was the theme of identity (defined as the fact of being who or what a person or thing is; the distinguishing character or personality of an individual; or a close similarity or affinity) within a given format: the work in any medium needed to be framed and/or otherwise ready to be hung on a wall (or installed as sculpture) and could not exceed 12x12(x12) cubic inches including the frame.
The following students are represented: Elizabeth Baldini ’17, “Echoes of Time”, silver gelatin print; Grace Bradley ’18, "Innocent Obscurity", inkjet print; Lorraine Byrne ’17, “Searching”, Raku-fired stoneware; John Corrigan ’18, “Heading Out”, chalk pastel; Sydney Epstein ’17, “Anxiety”, silver gelatin print; David Freedman ’17, "Flux Face", linoleum block /pen; Joelle Mentis ’18, "The Under-represented", drypoint; Isabel Silvia ’18, “Multifaceted”, porcelain, gold leaf; Eli Wasserman ’21, “Beam Me Up Scotty”, digital photography; and Michael Webber ’19, “Circuitous Path”, ceramic.
“Each participating school could submit up to ten entries, and the arts faculty selected our top ten artworks in mid-November,” said Visual Art Department Chair David Saul. “Several teachers and students enjoyed attending the opening last Friday and were impressed by the quality of the work on exhibit at the newly opened Lunder Arts Center at Lesley.
“We are hoping that this collaboration between AANEPS & LUCAD will continue in future years to showcase our students diverse and creative expression via drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics and sculpture.”
