Trio of Red Wings Sign National Letters of Intent

For many high school student athletes, the ultimate goal is to continue their playing careers at a college that is a great fit both athletically and academically. Three Rivers student-athletes have been fortunate enough to find that balance and signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, November 9.

Jermaine Samuels ’17, Kaitlin Wood ’17, and Michael Young ’17 have each proven themselves to be tremendous athletes and will each be pursuing their careers next year at the college level. Surrounded by friends, family, and coaches, each signed their letter at a small ceremony in Benson Gymnasium.

Jermaine will be pursuing his basketball career at Villanova University next year, joining a program that is coming off a National Championship in 2016. In his three seasons with the Red Wings, Jermaine has been a three-time ISL All-League selection, a two-time recipient of the Ernest Lamb, Jr. Award, the 2015 ISL and NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year, and will captain the team this year as a senior.

Kaitlin will take her talents to Chicago, Illinois where she will play field hockey for Northwestern University. Kaitlin has helped lead the Rivers field hockey team to back-to-back NEPSAC Class C Championships and was named NEPSAC Tournament MVP both years. She is a two-time ISL All-League selection and has captained the team for two seasons, helping establish new program records for wins each year.

Michael has signed on to continue his ice hockey career at the University of Connecticut, where he will reunite with fellow Rivers alumnus Miles Gendron ’14. Michael has helped the Red Wings to two ISL Eberhart Division Championships while twice being named an ISL All-League player. He was the 2016 recipient of the Paul Licht Hockey Award and is preparing for his second season as a captain.
