Conservatory Students Give Benefit Concert

On Saturday, November 12, Middle and Upper School Conservatory Program students will present a benefit concert in collaboration with Music for Food, a musician-led initiative to fight hunger in our local communities. This event, which begins at 7:00 p.m. in Rivera Recital Hall in Bradley Hall, is a school-wide opportunity to support the Natick Service Council's Vi Tituny Food Pantry, an organization with which Rivers has had a long association. The program will feature Conservatory Program musicians in classical, jazz, and vocal ensembles, as well as solo performers.

“This Music for Food concert transforms music into food, nourishing ears and bodies,” said David Tierney, Director of The Rivers School Conservatory and Chair of the Performing Arts Department. “In response to the music you enjoy, and to show the community that artist citizenship works, the audience is asked to make a donation of food or dollars to benefit the Vi Tutuny Food Pantry following the concert. 100% of your donation goes to the pantry!”

At the concert donations of cash, credit card, or checks made payable to “Music for Food will be welcome, as well as donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries. Donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged with a tax receipt from the non-profit Music for Food.

Rivers’ Conservatory Program students take additional classes at the end of the academic day in music theory, ear training, performance, improvisation, solfege, and independent studies, as well as being assigned to Conservatory Program jazz, chamber, or vocal ensembles. They also join other Rivers musicians in the Upper and Middle School chamber orchestra, chamber ensembles, big band, jazz combos, women’s chorus, and men’s chorus.

“We hope you will join us and spread the word about how music can transform not just lives but our communities too,” commented Tierney.
