Tim Dick '16 Named US Lacrosse Academic All-American, Plus Spring Athletic Recognition

The 2016 season was truly a season to remember for the Rivers boy’s lacrosse team as they set a new program record for wins in a season, and much of that success can be credited to the outstanding play of the Red Wing defense. At the center of that unit was the group’s lone four-year starter, senior Tim Dick ’16, who has been named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American.

A student-athlete who earns the distinction of Academic All-American is one who “exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom.” Athletes must also be a significant contributor to their team, make an impact beyond the lacrosse field in their school or community, and have a minimum GPA of 3.7. Despite the remarkable depth and talent of student athletes in the ISL, the league is given just one Academic All-American designation to distribute each year.

In his time at Rivers, Tim has met and surpassed the lofty benchmarks above. On the lacrosse field, Tim was named to the ISL All-League team as a senior after earning Honorable Mentions as a sophomore and junior, and received the Ferris Thomsen Jr. Award as the athlete who showed the most improvement, enthusiasm, and overall value to the team.

“All things considered, given his lengthy commute, his multiple rehab stints to return from injury, and responsibilities as a one-year Captain and multi-year leader, Tim has quite possibly devoted more time and energy to the advancement of Rivers boys' lacrosse than any other player I have coached in my 15 years at the helm,” said Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach Justin Walker. “My coaching staff’s relationship with Tim and his entire family was the type of relationship that really embodied all the reasons coaches should want to stay in what can be a challenging profession; they personified nearly everything that is right about high school athletics - on the field and beyond.”

As a member of the football team, Tim was named All-League as a junior, Honorable Mention as a sophomore, and received the 2014 Grossman Achievement Award. He also received the Independent School League Award of Excellence, which recognizes athletes who exhibit the ISL’s ideals of integrity, sportsmanship, fair play, and good citizenship.

In the classroom, Tim was a High Honor Roll student throughout his time at Rivers. He will pursue his lacrosse career next spring at Georgetown University.
