Students Garner 15 Art Awards—and Best of Show—at SISAL
Rivers student artists had an impressive showing at the recent Small Independent School Art League (SISAL) annual exhibition, hosted this year by the Bancroft School in Worcester. Thirteen students received a total of 15 awards, Audrey Connelly ’20 received Best in Show in the Middle School division for her drawing entitled “Ann Barnstable.”
More than 400 entries were submitted by17 participating schools in a variety of media, and were judged in two divisions— grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. In the Upper School age group, Rivers students received one first-place prize, two second-place prizes, four third-place prizes, and four honorable mentions as follows: First: Brett Rahbany ’17 (Woodworking); Second: Vanessa Edgehill ’16 (Printmaking), Robert D’Alessandro ’16 (Woodworking); Third: David Freedman ’17 (Printmaking), Frank Ferrara ’17 (Ceramics-Wheel Thrown), Ben Snow ’16 (Ceramics-Hand built), Missy Segall ’17 (Woodworking); Honorable Mention: Kate Regan-Loomis ’17 (Painting), David Freedman ’17 (Drawing), Emily Ruby Jean ’16 (Sculpture), Brett Rahbany ’17 (Woodworking).
Rivers Middle School students also had a strong showing, earning two first-place prizes and two second-place prizes, as follows: First: Audrey Connelly ’20 (Drawing), Margo Sugarman ’20 (Photography); Second: Keira Harder ’22 (Ceramics), George Reinhardt ’20 (Photography).
“SISAL is a wonderful opportunity for all of our students in both our Middle and Upper Schools to submit their artwork to a carefully juried process which results in a large and diverse exhibition,” said Visual Arts Department Chair David Saul. “While select artworks are awarded prizes, the Bancroft School did a great job in displaying all submitted artwork.
“It is impressive that our student artists earned fifteen awards in varied media spanning drawing, painting, printmaking and photography to ceramics, sculpture and woodworking, representing the full scope of our extensive visual arts curriculum.”
