Winter Alumni Athletes Heating Up as Outside Temperatures Drop
As January winds to a close and temperatures drop towards freezing, the collegiate athletic season is heating up and several recent Rivers graduates have put together impressive seasons thus far.
Nicole ’11 and Janelle Ferrara ’12 – Syracuse & Yale Women’s Ice Hockey
The sisters Ferrara were a difficult proposition when they shared the ice in MacDowell Arena, and both Nicole and Janelle have continued to cause opposing teams problems at their respective collegiate destinations.
The sisters were featured in The Daily Item earlier this week for their roles as team captains in their final college seasons. Nicole leads the Syracuse Orange in goals with 12 on the year and her 22 points is good for third on the team while Janelle’s 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) for the Yale Bulldogs places her fourth on the team.
Nicole and the Orange have posted a 7-3-2 record in College Hockey America conference play and will take on first-place Mercyhurst College this coming weekend. Janelle and Yale have been a bit more up and down with a 6-7-1 record in the ECAC ahead of a weekend series with Brown University.

Jen has continued her strong play for the Bulldogs as a sophomore, and posted a season-high 18 points against Boston College on January 10, which included a 3-for-4 performance from beyond the three-point arc. She is averaging 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and has connected on 53.9 percent of her shots this season.
Jen and the Bulldogs will travel to Philadelphia on Friday night to face the University of Pennsylvania and fellow Rivers alum Kristen Daley ’15. You can watch the game on the WatchESPN App by clicking here.
