Julia Thissell '16 Nominated for 2016 McDonald's All-American Game
Julia Thissell ’16 has been among the best basketball players in the Independent School League for the past several years, earning All-League honors as both a sophomore and junior. Now, midway through her senior season, Julia has been named a nominee for the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game.
Julia is now the fifth Rivers girls’ basketball player to be nominated for the annual showcase, joining Clare Sullivan ’11 (Holy Cross), Emilee Daley ’13 (Boston College), Jen Berkowitz ’14 (Yale University), and Kristen Daley ’15 (University of Pennsylvania). Julia signed a National Letter of Intent this fall and will continue her playing career next winter at Providence College.
In her three-plus seasons as a member of the Rivers basketball team, the Red Wings have amassed an impressive record of 74-11. In addition to her league recognition, Julia was named a 2014-15 New England Class B All-Star and is a captain of this year’s squad.
Julia is one of four girls from Massachusetts to be nominated for this year’s game. Tabor Academy had two players nominated while Noble & Greenough School had one. The 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game will take place on March 30, 2016 in Chicago and will be broadcast on ESPN.
