Fabian Ardila Named Varsity Girls' Volleyball Coach

Director of Athletics Bob Pipe has named Fabian Ardila the next head coach for varsity girls’ volleyball at The Rivers School.

Coach Ardila joins the Rivers coaching staff after more than 25 years of coaching at the international, collegiate, and high school level. Prior to Rivers, he was the head coach of the Weston High School girls’ volleyball team from 2009-2016 and has coached the Wellesley High School boys’ volleyball team since 2016. Coach Ardila is also the Director of Skill Development and Recruiting for SMASH Volleyball, one of New England’s most successful club programs, and an assistant coach with the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team.

“We are incredibly excited to add someone of Coach Ardila’s expertise to our volleyball program as it enters its second year of varsity competition,” Pipe said. “His knowledge of the game and involvement with USA Volleyball insures that our student-athletes will get the highest quality instruction.”

In their first season of competition, the Red Wings posted a 6-12 record but closed the season with a 3-0 win over BB&N. Every player from last year’s roster returns for 2017, including ISL Honorable Mentions Tess Sussman ’18 and Marissa Tomaino ’18.

This fall will also feature the first year of the Middle School girls’ volleyball team, coached by MS Math teacher Tori Wilbur, which will insure a steady stream of volleyball players for the program moving forward.
