Parents’ League Auction Raises the Bar

The Rivers community set a new high for giving at Saturday’s Parents’ League Auction, raising a record $383,000 (estimated gross) at the annual event that raises funds for professional development and student technology, as well as a fund-a-need initiative. Nearly 400 parents, faculty, and staff attended the Let’s Go Glamping event, enthusiastically bidding on silent and live auction items that ranged from a pair of coveted tickets to Hamilton to Rivers-bedecked paddle boards to a backyard pizza party for 40.

The evening was capped off by a final appeal to bidders to contribute to the renovation of the Fitness Center in the MacDowell Athletic Center. In a brief video, members of the Athletic Department spoke of the pressing need to redesign the center and replace the aging equipment, much of which is original to the building which opened in 2003. In all, $162,000 was raised to ensure that Rivers students are able to reach their fitness and sports performance goals in an inviting and efficient environment. Click here to view the video.

The co-chairs of this year’s glamorously campy event were Janet Correia and Aramis Peña-Ramos. They and a dedicated group of committee chairs coordinated more than 100 volunteers in the months leading up to Saturday’s event—gathering auction acquisitions, scheduling table volunteers, and overseeing the venue set-up. Klee Miller and Claudine Shienkopf led the creative decorations committee, which transformed the MacDowell Arena into a woodland paradise complete with twinkling trees and candlelit tents.

“I’d like to thank all of the parents who volunteered and made tonight’s auction such a success,” said Director of Parent Programs and special Events Amy Dunne. “They spent countless hours working out every detail, and it certainly paid off. The real winners tonight are the students and faculty who will benefit from this tremendous show of generosity by the Rivers community.”
