Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer in the northeast, but before heading off on vacations and internships, several Rivers alumni athletes had to complete their spring seasons and one alumna capped off her season with a National Championship.
Hailey Cosseboom ’13 and the Middlebury Panthers topped Trinity College in the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship game, 9-5, on Sunday May 29. The title is Middlebury’s first championship since 2004 and the sixth in program history. Hailey finished the season with four goals and two assists in 13 games.

NESCAC All-Academic Team Announced
The NESCAC All-Academic Team is composed of student-athletes who have reached sophomore standing and achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.35. Three Rivers alumni proved that they are true student-athletes by earning their place on this list.

Jake Willsey ’13 and Tulane Earn NCAA Tournament Bid
The Tulane Green Wave baseball team earned a sport in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament after completing a 39-19 season that saw them ranked No. 11 in the nation at the regular season’s end. They will play in the Oxford, Mississippi Regional and will play a best-of-three series against Boston College for the right to move on.
Jake Willsey ’13 played in 55 of Tulane’s 58 games – starting 49 of them – and finished the season second on the team with a .281 batting average and team-high .567 slugging percentage. Jake was also solid in the field at second based, registering 141 assists and 83 putouts against just six errors for a .974 fielding percentage.
The first game of the series will take place on Friday, June 3, at 4:00 p.m. and can be streamed live on ESPN3.

Rivers Alumni Help Hartford to NCAA Tournament
Earlier this month, the Hartford men’s lacrosse team stormed through the America East Conference Tournament, knocking off conference favorite Albany (11-10, OT) in the semifinals before defeating Vermont, 17-16, in a thrilling championship game. Conor Van Duzer ’12 and Brendan Gates ’14 notched one assist apiece over the two games to help lead the Hawks to the NCAA Tournament.
Hartford fell to Quinnipiac in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but Van Duzer and Gates once again played their part. Gates scored the first goal of the game and Van Duzer added an assist in the third quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Bobcats who went on to win 14-9.
Gates was named to the America East All-Academic team after posting a team-high 3.83 GPA through two academic years as a science/physical therapy major. He finished the season with two goals and one assist for the season while Van Duzer contributed four goals and five assists.
