Alumni Profile: Addison L. Everett ’80

“This is an exciting time to be working here,” said Addison Everett ’80. “Everyone is energized by the current economic momentum and boundless opportunities.” Who could have imagined a few years ago that this would be a quote about China rather than the United States. However, this is how Everett characterizes China’s dynamic economic growth, which he observes firsthand in his position at PricewaterhouseCoopers based in Beijing.

Everett, who has been with PricewaterhouseCoopers for 15 years, has been stationed in Asia for the last two and a half years. His division provides capital markets advisory services to non-U.S. companies offering securities in the United States. “We advise them on converting their financial statements from local accounting rules to U.S. accounting rules and on the whole process of offering securities,” he said.

“The entire market for accounting-related services is rapidly expanding, reflecting the annual growth in the economy of 8 percent or more,” Everett added. “This growth is balanced across industries and covers a broad scope of economic activity from the privatization of state-owned enterprises to the emergence of entrepreneurial enterprises. There is an increasing demand for our services as the financial reporting needs of the People’s Republic of China converge with international standards.”

Everett, who is the son of long-time Rivers faculty member, Mary Everett, fondly recalls the strong sense of community at Rivers. He earned a bachelor of arts degree at Bucknell and then a master’s in business administration at Boston University before joining Coopers & Lybrand, which has since merged with Pricewaterhouse.

Everett had been based in Hong Kong and Tokyo before Beijing, and he continues to travel all over Asia on business, mainly to other parts of China and to Japan and Korea. His wife, Julie, and children, John and Katherine, who have been living in Winchester, are looking forward to joining him later this year.
