Nick DeSisto '13 Named to the Under Armour All-America All-Tournament Team

Although Nick DeSisto ’13 won’t be stepping onto the lacrosse field in a Rivers uniform again until next spring, he has been keeping himself busy in the offseason by competing against some of the best lacrosse players in the country. Although Nick DeSisto ’13 won’t be stepping onto the lacrosse field in a Rivers uniform again until next spring, he has been keeping himself busy in the offseason by competing against some of the best lacrosse players in the country. DeSisto was recently named to the elite All-Tournament Team in the Under Armour All-America Tournament—an honor bestowed upon just 10 individuals out of the 250 players at the tournament.

After trying out alongside more than 300 players from the region, DeSisto and 24 other athletes were selected to represent New England in the Underclassmen Games. The other nine regions represented in the tournament were Baltimore, Long Island, Upstate New York, the Midwest, Philadelphia, New Jersey, the South, Washington, D.C., and the West. According to DeSisto, playing against teams from other regions across the country was the best lacrosse experience he’s had in his career thus far.

“The competition is so much better and faster and it makes the game more fun,” he said.

The New England team made it to the championship game of the tournament but lost the title to Philadelphia. DeSisto said the final game was a highlight of the tournament for him, despite the loss.

“The fact that our team made it all the way shows a lot about the talent our team had and the talent in our region,” he said. “It gives New England a better reputation in the game.”

Not only did his team excel in the tournament, but DeSisto garnered the highest level of personal recognition as an All-Tournament Team selection. Only three players can be selected from each field position, and selections are made by the coaches of the opposing teams. DeSisto said he was shocked and humbled to hear his name announced with the likes of the most talented players in the country.

“A lot of big names around the lacrosse community were selected to the All-Tournament Team,” he said. “When my name was called, it took me a few seconds to realize it. The feeling that the coaches thought I deserved the honor was unlike any other.”

DeSisto has plans to play lacrosse at the college level, but for now, he is focused on leading his fellow Red Wings through a successful season in 2013.

“My goal is to be a great captain and to make sure that the team works hard every time we touch the field,” he said.
