Head of School Tom Olverson has stepped on to the social media scene with his own Twitter feed and a new blog, “Inside the Head’s Head.”
He began tweeting during the summer months, and now primarily uses Twitter to share short anecdotes about Rivers and news stories about education and parenting.
Olverson hopes these two communication vehicles will help him illustrate the essence of Rivers, and provide new ways of corresponding with others about the school and education in general.
“Tweeting and blogging are easy ways for me to communicate with people who aren’t on campus every day,” said Olverson. “These tools allow me to let people know what is going on at Rivers and what I think is important in education. They also make it simple for me to show how the values we aim to promote at Rivers actually play out in our culture. And finally, tweeting and blogging are fun!”
The Head of School made his first blog post last week, detailing a personal story and a takeaway message he shared with Rivers students on the first day of school.
“The bottom line is I want you to be better than I was when I was in 8th grade – a lot better,” he writes. “And I want our community to be better.”
Rivers admits academically qualified students and does not discriminate against students or families on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or ethnic or national origin in the administration of its educational programs, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic programs, and other school-administered programs.
