Rivers Boys' Basketball Lands Big Class B Win

On January 18, the Red Wings came out strong against ISL competitor Milton Academy and came away with an impressive 52-33 win.

On January 18, the Red Wings came out strong against ISL competitor Milton Academy and came away with an impressive 52-33 win. Rivers started the game playing very tough defense and making it difficult for Milton to score. Junior Lenny Bautista had his best game so far this season with 14 points, plenty of rebounds and two key blocks. Seniors Henry Eisenhart (nine points) and Sean McGahan (seven points) were joined by sophomores Ben Patrick (seven points) and John Bullitt (seven points) in leading the team to victory.

Rivers took on Class B team, Phillips Andover on January 25 and won 49-43. The Red Wings played strong defense from the start and led their opponent 31-19 at the half. Patrick led the scoring with 12 points, Bullitt and Eisenhart had nine points each and junior Eric Anderson had eight points.

Girls' Hockey
Girls' hockey has continued to blow away the competition with solid victories over their opponents. Rivers came out strong and shutout the Groton School on January 19. Senior Katelyn Landry had a hat trick while sophomore Jacqueline Ham also had two goals and one assist. Juniors Jillian Dempsey and Caitlin Walsh had three assists apiece while Rivers' goalie, sophomore Andrea Schweitzer, managed 19 saves in the shutout.

The Red Wings had another key shutout on January 23 against Thayer Academy. Junior Rebecca Nichols had the first goal with assists from sophomores Jacqueline Bouchie and Alexis Antonelli. Freshman Nicole Ferrara had two goals and one assist, senior Brittany Mills had two goals and two assists, and sophomore Eliza Butler, Dempsey and Ham each had a goal. Assists were made by Ham, Walsh, Bouchie, sophomore Julia Williams and junior Meghan Tedoldi.

Girls' Basketball
Rivers continued their winning trend with a big 56-30 victory over The Pingree School on January 16. Senior captain Anna Littman-Quinn had five three-pointers in the first half and finished the game with 17 points. Senior Lila Knisely had eight points to complete Rivers' best offensive game so far this season with the team scoring a total of seven three-point shots before the final buzzer.

On January 19, Rivers played ISL opponent St. George's and won 59-26. Freshman Sara Berthiaume had a breakout day with 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Littman-Quinn had 13 points while senior Jordan Balcom had 11 points.

Ski Team
At their January 16 race, the Rivers ski team's top finishers included seniors Jacquelyn Durand and Caite Cutler who finished right behind each other in 13th and 14th place out of 45 female skiers. Top finishers in the boys' race were juniors Matt Robinson in 13th place and James Lapides in 14th place out of 55 total skiers.
