Rivers Honors Student-Athletes From The Winter Season

Three student-athletes were named to the All-New England team during the winter season while nine students received All-League (I.S.L.) honors.
Three student-athletes were named to the All-New England team during the winter season while nine students received All-League (I.S.L.) honors. In addition, five students took home All-League Honorable Mentions and a member of the girls' basketball team was asked to participate in the New England All-Star game.
Girls' and Boys' Skiing Both the Rivers girls' and boys' ski teams finished the season by attending the New England Tournament. The girls' team won the tournament with skiers finishing somewhere in the top three spots on both the slalom and giant slalom races. Senior Becca Hayes came in first place overall on the giant slalom while sister Emily, an eighth grader, finished second in the slalom race. Becca finished in third in the slalom with sophomore Molly Barstow close behind in fourth. The team consistently came in second place in all their I.S.L races this season.
Sisters Becca and Emily Hayes as well as Barstow, were named All-League and All-New England skiers. Becca received the Coach's Award as the racer who consistently displayed excellent leadership throughout the season on the girls' team, and senior Chris Whittier, received this leadership award for the boys' team.
Junior Jacqui Durand was given the Most Improved Skier award for showing the most significant improvement, intense hard work, and commitment to the sport throughout the course of the season. Junior Jonathan Salzman received this award for the boy's team.
Girls’ Basketball The Rivers girls' basketball team a finished their season 13-8 overall and landed themselves a spot in the New England Class B Tournament. Despite playing with the utmost intensity and determination, the team came up short in the first round. Junior co-captain Anna Littman-Quinn broke the school's scoring record with 979 career points and received All-League honors. Littman-Quinn was also invited to play on the New England All-Star team.
Senior co-captain Megan O'Brien was named an All-League Honorable Mention and received the Coach's Award as the player whose selflessness, commitment, perseverance, and leadership made an outstanding contribution to the team. Junior Lila Knisely was also named an All-League Honorable Mention and received the Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Boys' Hockey Senior brothers Jeff and Chris Sullivan received All-League honors for their skills while on the ice. Senior Tim Carman was given the Peter Brock Hockey Award for not only showing the most improvement but also playing above and beyond the expectations of his coaches and teammates.
Chris Sullivan was presented with the team's Paul Licht Award, which recognizes the player who best combines a high standard of play with sportsmanship and dedication.
Girls' Hockey Following an outstanding season and a 19-8 overall record, the Rivers girls' hockey team made it to the finals of the New England Tournament. A relatively new program, this was the third year the team has played at the varsity level and the second year the girls have made it to the New England Tournament.
Senior co-captain Allie Page and sophomores Jillian Dempsey and Caitlin Walsh earned All-League honors. Page received the Coach's Award for her leadership, responsibility, and dedication that contributed significantly to the team's success.
Junior Jennifer Keefe and sophomore Becca Nichols shared the team's Most Improved Player Award.
Boys' Basketball Senior Mark Goodrich and juniors Henry Eisenhart and Sean McGahan received All-League Honorable Mentions for their stellar level of play. McGahan also received the team's Ernest Lamb Jr. Award, which is given to the player who, through his ability, character, sportsmanship and dedication to the game, follows in the footsteps of the award's namesake, a 1953 Rivers graduate.
Lenny Bautista, a sophomore, was presented with the team's F. Ervin Prince Award, which honors basketball players who have striven hardest to improve, both academically and athletically.
