Members of the Rivers varsity lacrosse team take summer seriously. Many student-athletes have enrolled in tournaments or at camps with great success.
“I am very proud of the efforts these players are making over the off-season, and I am very confident we will reap the benefits come spring of '06,” said head coach Justin Walker.
Rising junior Ben Woodruff, rising sophomore John Malanowski and rising senior Jim Simmons attended the Top Gun Vermont lacrosse camp in mid-June in Poultney, Vermont.
Rising seniors Zach Bain, Tim Bigelow, Adam Mason, Steve Belichick and Peter Sessa played at the Indoor Action Sports Showcase (held in mid-June), a recruiting showcase in western Massachusetts known for its solid competition. These student-athletes played on "Team Breakway," which went undefeated and was regarded highly as one of the strongest teams in attendance.
In late June, Bigelow, Belichick, Sessa, and Bain attended the New England Premier Showcase along with rising junior Mark Goodrich. The northern New Hampshire recruiting showcase requires its players be recommended to attend. Bain and Bigelow were named All-Stars.
In addition, Bain played very well at the Peak 200 lacrosse camp in Springfield, Mass., in mid-July.
Goodrich also attended Top 205 Lacrosse Camp at the University of Maryland held in late June/early July, which is one of the most prestigious recruiting camps. Out of the approximately 500 players in attendance, Goodrich was named as an All-Star, an honor reserved for the top 50 players.
Sessa was named as an All-Star at the Brown Challenge lacrosse camp held in early/mid-July.
Most recently, Belichick and Alex Saunders ’05 played for a select team from Indoor Action Sports in Glastonbury, Conn., in the college division.
