Red Wings Ready for Postseason Play: Three Rivers Teams Advance to NEPSAC Tournaments, Others Finish Fall Season Strong
NEPSAC playoffs take place this week, and three Rivers teams—varsity field hockey, varsity volleyball, and varsity football—earned the opportunity to advance to the postseason.
Varsity field hockey earns the #1 seed in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament after finishing the regular season 16–1 and winning the Independent School League. They will host Governor’s Academy on Wednesday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup.
Varsity volleyball earns the #6 seed in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament after finishing the regular season 11–4. They will travel to Greens Farms Academy on Wednesday, November 12, for a quarterfinal matchup at 4:00 p.m.
Varsity football earned their fourth bowl berth in the last five seasons after finishing 7–1 in the regular season. They will travel to Kingswood Oxford on Saturday, November 15, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in the John Mackay Bowl.

While field hockey, volleyball, and football play on, the fall season came to an end for many teams this past week.
Boys’ and girls’ cross country competed in the NEPSTA DIII Championships in Attleboro over the weekend. Rivers boys’ varsity cross country finished third out of 23 teams. Jason Minicozzi ’26 came in first place overall, with a time of 16:06. Sam Blank ’26 (17:47) and Dash Claflin ’29 (17:51) also finished in the top 10, in eighth and ninth place, respectively. All three earned All-New England honors for their performances. Alex Kovtunenko ’28 (44th) and Colby Crawford ’28 (52nd) also ran well for the Red Wings.
Rivers girls’ varsity cross country finished fourth out of 22 teams. Kendra Snell ’28 (20:58) finished 13th and earned All-New England honors. Angelina Ha ’26 (21st), Isla Scott ’28 (33rd), Olivia Standish ’27 (34th), and Anna Clark ’29 (49th) all ran well for the Red Wings.
Boys’ and girls’ soccer wrapped up their seasons this past week as well. The boys earned two hard fought ties against Nobles last Wednesday (1–1) and Roxbury Latin on Saturday (3–3), falling just short of the postseason. The girls wrapped up an injury-plagued campaign with a 0–2 defeat to Nobles last Wednesday.
