Ben Churchill ’17 and Aidan Van Duzer ’17 have been key members of the Rivers boys’ lacrosse program over the past four years and both have received national recognition from US Lacrosse for their performance on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities.
One of the best goalies in high school lacrosse, Ben was named a 2017 US Lacrosse All-American after leading the Red Wings to a 13-5 record and saving 59 percent of the shots he faced. A future Princeton Tiger, Ben is the third US Lacrosse All-American to play for Coach Justin Walker, joining Jordan Greenfield ’10 (Fairfield University/Marquette University) and Steve Manning ’09 (Trinity College).
"Ben has grown and matured over the years, both mentally and physically, to the point where he can be considered among the best goaltenders in the country,” Coach Walker said. “His tireless devotion to his craft, and his evolution as leader, have left a wonderful blueprint for the younger players to follow."
Aidan was named a 2017 US Lacrosse Academic All-American, an honor given to student-athletes who are significant contributors to their team, make an impact beyond the lacrosse field, and have a minimum GPA of 3.7. He is just the second Rivers boys’ lacrosse player to earn this distinction, following in the footsteps of former teammate Tim Dick ’16 (Georgetown University)
On the field, Aidan played several critical roles for the Red Wings. He was the team’s face-off specialist, winning 65.8 percent of his draws and contributing four goals and eight assists to the offense. Off the field, Aidan is a high-honor roll student and he will continue his academic and athletic career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.
“Aidan's tremendous focus on both academic and athletic excellence has been exceptional in every way,” Coach Walker said. “His focus on strength training and physical fitness has led him to be the most imposing physical presence on the playing field that I can recall ever suiting up for me at Rivers. I strongly suspect it's this same unflinching devotion to every minute detail in the classroom that led him to achieving such extraordinary heights in the classroom.”
