The Nonesuch Players Present 'Children of Eden' February 23-24
The Nonesuch Players will present Stephen Schwartz’s Children of Eden for their annual winter musical on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m., and Friday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m., at Regis College’s Fine Arts Center.
“This epic show charts the biblical stories of Adam and Eve, the fall of man, Cain and Abel, Noah's ark, and the great flood,” said Director Chris Holownia. “It never went to Broadway and thus remains one of Schwartz's lesser-known musicals, especially when compared with Godspell, Pippin, and Wicked. However, the soaring music and beautiful messages captured by this piece of theatre are both timeless and timely.”
The show explores themes as broad as the origin of the universe and as personal as the sibling rivalries, but throughout the show’s journey its focus remains on the choices made by characters when confronted by these problems.
“The stories told throughout the show remind us that we are all part of the same human family, that we are all ‘Children of Eden’ seeking peace and harmony, justice and equality, and that there is always hope for the future whenever any one of us decides to renew our dedication to that common cause that binds us together.”
Thursday evening is an opportunity for the entire community to take in the show with all evening commitments and practices finishing by 6:30 p.m. and no homework due the following day. There will be a community dinner in Kraft Dining Hall at 5:15 p.m. for faculty, staff, and students, with bagged dinners available for athletes after practice, and buses to take students to and from Regis. Students, faculty, and staff can click here to sign up for the free dinner, free ticket, and bus online. To buy a ticket for $5 for either the Thursday or Friday production, click here.
These performances represent the culmination of months of hard word and long rehearsals for these students, whether they are in the show, behind the scenes, or in the pit providing the show’s orchestration.
“I couldn't have asked for a more talented, dedicated, or hardworking cast, crew, and production team with whom to collaborate on my first directorial endeavor at Rivers,” Mr. Holownia said. “I hope you enjoy the show as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to life with them.”
