Red Wings Ready for Postseason Play: Four Rivers Teams Advance to NEPSAC Tournaments, Others Finish Fall Season Strong
NEPSAC playoffs started this week, and four Rivers teams—varsity field hockey, varsity volleyball, boys’ varsity soccer, and varsity football—earned the opportunity to advance to the postseason.

Varsity field hockey earned the #1 seed in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament after finishing the regular season 16–1 and winning the Independent School League. They will host Governor’s Academy on Wednesday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup. After falling behind 0–1 early, #1 varsity field hockey battled back and defeated Governor’s 2–1 to advance to the NEPSAC Class B semifinals. They improved to 17–1 overall on the season and will host Cushing on Saturday, November 15, at 2:00 p.m. with a chance to advance to the finals, which are hosted at Rivers this year.
Varsity volleyball earned the #6 seed in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament after finishing the regular season 11–4. They will travel to Greens Farms Academy on Wednesday, November 12, for a quarterfinal matchup at 4:00 p.m. Shorthanded due to injury, varsity volleyball fell 0–3 in the NEPSAC quarterfinals to #3 Greens Farms Academy.
Boys’ varsity soccer earned the #8 seed in the NEPSAC Class B Tournament. They will travel to Mount Saint Charles on Wednesday, November 12, for a 5:00 p.m. quarterfinal kickoff. Boys’ varsity soccer traveled down to #1 Mount Saint Charles for a quarterfinal matchup but came up short, falling 0–4 to the unbeaten Mounties.
Varsity football earned their fourth bowl berth in the last five seasons after finishing 7–1 in the regular season. They will travel to Kingswood Oxford on Saturday, November 15, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff in the John Mackay Bowl.

While field hockey, volleyball, boys’ soccer, and football played on, the fall season came to an end for many teams during the second week of November.
Girls’ soccer wrapped up their season last Wednesday, November 5, closing out an injury-plagued campaign with a 0–2 defeat to Nobles.
Boys’ and girls’ cross country competed in the NEPSTA DIII Championships in Attleboro over the weekend. Rivers boys’ varsity cross country finished third out of 23 teams. Jason Minicozzi ’26 came in first place overall, with a time of 16:06. Sam Blank ’26 (17:47) and Dash Claflin ’29 (17:51) also finished in the top 10, in eighth and ninth place, respectively. All three earned All-New England honors for their performances. Alex Kovtunenko ’28 (44th) and Colby Crawford ’28 (52nd) also ran well for the Red Wings.
Rivers girls’ varsity cross country finished fourth out of 22 teams. Kendra Snell ’28 (20:58) finished 13th and earned All-New England honors. Angelina Ha ’26 (21st), Isla Scott ’28 (33rd), Olivia Standish ’27 (34th), and Anna Clark ’29 (49th) all ran well for the Red Wings.
