Lily Gillett teaches sixth and seventh grade art, coordinates the curriculum for the Middle School Performing and Creative Arts course, and teaches a unit on theater set design. She will also be a Middle School advisor and coach Middle School field hockey and lacrosse. She has a bachelor’s in studio art with a minor in arts and education from William Smith College, where she played varsity field hockey. Lily was an art teacher and field hockey coach at the Bullis School in Maryland before coming to Rivers and served as the art department chair there for two years.

Josh has taught science at the Middle School since 2000. In addition, Josh coaches boys’ Middle School ice hockey and serves on the Leadership Committee. Before coming to Rivers, Josh taught at Milton Academy. He earned a B.A. in philosophy from University of New Hampshire and a B.S. in biology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Christine Pynchon
Grade 9 Dean, Mathematics, Varsity Softball Head Coach
Meredith Caplan teaches Upper School English. Prior to coming to Rivers in 2013, she taught and coached at Newark Academy in New Jersey and at The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. She also worked for The Steppingstone Foundation in Boston. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bowdoin College and a master’s degree in the Teaching of English from Teachers College at Columbia University. She has traveled to Romania with Rivers students to work with Romanian children, and she currently serves on the Interdisciplinary Committee. In addition to advising underclassmen, Meredith is the assistant coach for varsity girls’ soccer and coaches lacrosse in the middle school.
Victoria Mizzi joined the Mathematics Department in 2016 after teaching the IB math curriculum at the International School of Boston, IB World School. Prior to that, she worked at the Washington International School, IB World School in Washington, DC where she also served as department chair. Victoria received both a bachelor of education and a bachelor of science degree from Queen’s University. She was a Project Zero Classroom participant at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Victoria will teach math in the Upper School, including multivariable calculus, advise, and coach.
Nicholas Jordan
Grade 12 Dean, Science, Science Department Safety Officer
Nicholas Jordan joined the Science Department in 2016 after three years of teaching biology and Chemistry at Loomis Chaffee School in CT. Prior to that, he taught at his alma mater, Eton College, in Windsor, England. Nick served as head coach for the rowing team at Loomis, and the assistant coach for girls JV basketball. Nick earned a BA in organismic and evolutionary biology from Harvard University and is currently completing his MS in biomedical sciences at Tufts University. He teaches science in the Upper School, advises, and coaches.
