New Positions Announced

Head of School Ned Parsons recently announced the creation of two new administrative positions: an assistant dean of faculty and a director of educational technology.

Science teacher Chris Dalton has accepted the position of assistant dean of faculty, to begin in July 2019. Dalton will work with Upper School Dean of Faculty Leslie Fraser in running the academic program of the Upper School and will collaborate with teachers and administrators as he executes research in the service of better understanding pedagogical trends, patterns, and opportunities at Rivers.

“Chris’s deep experience and acumen in research and consulting make him a great fit for this position,” said Parsons. “We’re very excited about the lens he can bring to bear on teaching and learning as we use data to inform our work across the Rivers community.”

Dalton will continue to teach one class in the science department and to serve as an advisor in the Upper School.

Parsons also has named math teacher John Adams to the position of director of educational technology. This newly created position, said Parsons, leverages Adams’s “passion for, and knowledge of, educational technology, a boon for the faculty that we wanted to bring to bear on our classrooms. John has worked over the past several years to implement best practices in educational technology, and his ideas for where we can take our teaching with the right tools and training in our hands are energizing.”

Adams will continue to teach three classes in the math department and to serve as an advisor in the Upper School.
