Rivers Students Accepted into Prestigious Music Festival

Following a rigorous audition process, nine Rivers School students have been accepted into the prestigious Senior District Music Festival hosted by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association. Of those nine, six also have been recommended to audition for the All-State Music Festival.

“It is quite an accomplishment to be accepted into these festivals,” explains Rivers Choral Director Susan Emmanouilidis. “It’s extremely competitive, as students from both private and public schools audition for the opportunity. Gaining acceptance is a testament to the hard work each of these students have put into honing their craft.”

The state is divided into five districts, and the Eastern district, of which Rivers is a member, held its auditions on November 17. To audition, each musician and singer must prepare a specific song or musical arrangement that they sing or play for an adjudicator. The students accepted into the festival will fill four ensembles: chorus, orchestra, symphonic band, and jazz band.

The highest scorers from each of the five districts receive a recommendation to audition in January for the All-State Festival, which will be in late February/early March. The Senior District Festival will be held at Boston Latin School on Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5 . More information about the festival can be found online at http://www.mmeaeasterndistrict.org/senior.htm.
