Rachel Hunter '08 Named to Forbes 30 Under 30 List

The annual Forbes Magazine 30 Under 30 List is chock full of young professionals who have risen to the top of their profession at an early stage of their careers, proving that they are not only the future of their chosen fields, but also the present. Rachel Hunter ’08 was named to the list for the financial sector for her work with Apollo Global Management in New York City.

Rachel began her career as an analyst at Morgan Stanley upon graduating Phi Betta Kappa from Brown University with a B.A. in Economics and Public Policy, but joined Apollo as an associate in May of 2014. Apollo nominated Rachel internally for Forbes’ annual list and sponsored her candidacy throughout the application process, which started in October and concluded when the list went public in early January.

“My initial reaction to the news was a combination of excitement and shock, but now that the surprise factor has worn off, I mostly feel a tremendous amount of gratitude,” Rachel said. “Gratitude for my colleagues, teachers, family, and friends who have provided me the opportunities, support, and knowledge to even be considered for this honor.”

As a Rivers student, Rachel was a leader in the classroom, among her peers, and on the sports field. She was a school co-president as a senior, captained the girls’ varsity lacrosse team, was sports editor of The Edge, and was the recipient of the Mathematics and 3-D Arts Prizes for her excellent work in those disciplines. Additionally, she received the Faculty Prize – Rivers' top academic award for seniors – and was named to the Cum Laude Society.

Even as her professional profile continues to rise, Rachel looks back on her first day at her first job for inspiration.

“The combination of fear, excitement, and unabated optimism that led me to show up two hours early to my first day – just in case! – will be a hard feeling to replicate and my favorite feeling to hold on to,” Rachel said. “I hope to continue to grow, learn, and be challenged in my career. Luckily finance, and specifically real estate, is always changing and evolving so I don’t think that will be much of a problem!”
